Skin Peels

Just about everyone can benefit from a chemical peel. The main benefit of a peel is its effectiveness in removing the dead skin cells that stubbornly cling to the skin’s outer layer, the stratum corneum. This accelerates the cell renewal process, stimulates collagen synthesis and improves elastin fibres in the skin.

Skin peels with FACEmed

Uses

On the face chemical skin peels help improve many skin conditions such as melasma, uneven skin texture, brown spots, acne, Rosacea, hyperpigmentation, superficial scars and wrinkling. Just like the face, the hands, neck and chest can also be treated, as these areas are often exposed to the sun and are therefore susceptible to damage. Treatment is also recommended sometimes as part of a comprehensive treatment plan i.e. in combination with Microdermabrasion, Professional Skincare or Restylane Vital®.

Different types of peels, differing in their intensities are used at FACEmed:

Superficial Peels – SkinCeuticals Gel Peels
These are the lighter milder peels and are the most commonly used. They remove the outer layer of cells, lightly exfoliating the skin to give you a healthy glow. We customise our peels to patient’s needs. The usual combinations are of alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) and betahydroxy acids (BHAs) eg glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid and mandelic acid.

Medium Peels – OBAGI Blue Peel
This type of peel penetrates further into the skin.
These peels usually contain trichloroacetic acid (TCA). This treatment it is used to fight the most noticeable signs of photo ageing, such as lines and dry, uneven skin colour tone. The TCA Skin Peel can also be used to treat acne and acne scarring, and areas on the hands, forearms and neck.
