What Is It?
Skin tags, also know as Acrochordons or Cutaneous Papilloma, are small benign flaps of skin or protruding growths that are attached to the skin by a small peduncle or skin stalk. Skin tare usually either flesh coloured or a slightly darker pigmentation and can appear anywhere on the body but tend to grow under the armpits, around the groin area, on the face, neck, chest and eyelids.
Although skin tags are harmless they can be a cause of irritation if they chaff or rub against clothes or other parts of the body. However, the main concern for skin tag sufferers is not medical but cosmetic. Skin tags can appear at any age although they are more common in adult years of life.
Your Experience
Skin tags are emoved with a simple in-clinic procedure that takes about 15 minutes.
The procedure is usually carried out under a local anaesthetic, which means that the affected skin area will be completely numb but you stay awake. The skin tags are removed using a scalpel, surgical scissors or cauterised.
The Result
The procedure will usually leave a minimal scar which will fade significantly over time.
Side Effects
Complications of minor skin surgery are uncommon, but the chance of problems does depend on the nature of the lesion, the exact type of procedure required and other factors such as your general health.
